Introduction

Identity theft is on the rise. Personal computers may be one of the easiest
ways for thieves to access information! A great deal of private information is kept on personal computers, from web forms to emails. With Atherion’s new Identity Pro ™, find and secure personal information (PI) before others get the chance to steal it. Identity Pro goes beyond current protection offered by anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-spam, or anti-phishing programs, to protect where these don’t. Identity Pro is designed to automatically seek out and protect important data.  Run a comprehensive scan to identify all private information, including social security numbers, credit card numbers, driver’s license numbers, and even passwords. No matter where the information is, Identity Pro will find it, to delete, encrypt or store safely with ease.

Thank you for purchasing Atherion's Identity Pro.

Close all other programs prior to downloading this product. Once Identity Pro
download is complete, select Run and the installer will begin automatically.

This is an example using the Firefox browser: Identity Pro will download in a
window like the one above. When complete, double click on the
shield to start the install process.

Select Next to continue with the installation of Identity Pro or select Cancel to
cancel the install process.

After reading the software license agreement select “I accept the agreement“
by checking the circle to the left, then click Next.

Select the location where Identity Pro will be installed. Atherion suggests the default location.
To chose a different drive, click Browse and select the drive, then click Next.

Select the location for the Identity Pro Shortcut. Atherion suggests the default location.
To change the location, click Browse and select the location, then click Next.

By default, "Create a desktop icon” and “Create a Quick Launch icon” will be
checked. This will install an Identity Pro icon on the desktop, and a quick
launch icon on the tool bar in the lower right hand corner of the monitor.
Atherion suggests leaving them checked. Click Next to continue.

This is a summary screen of the locations and icons selected. Use the back
arrow to make changes. To proceed, click Install to begin the process.

This screen shows the progress of the install.

When this screen appears, the install is complete. Simply click Finish
to launch Identity Pro or double click the desktop icon to launch the application.

Run A Free Scan

Close Microsoft Office Outlook prior to any scan. Outlook must be closed for
the scanner to view email files.

This splash screen will appear each time a scan begins.

This is an example of a normal scan during the scan process. Click on each of the three tabs: “My Internet Data,” “My Email” and “My Computer” to view the data found. The scan will end automatically when complete. To end a scan early, click Cancel.

When the scan is complete, the window will show the total number of files found on the quick scan. Use the Back button to view the data found line by line. Click Register Now to purchase the full version of Identity Pro.

Click Begin Scan to run a free trial scan with Identity Pro or unlock the full protective benefits by clicking Register NowIdentity Pro will not only locate any vulnerable information on the computer, it will provide a way to shred, encrypt or password-protect the data now!

Register Identity Pro

Purchase the full version of Identity Pro and receive a serial number by email or on the sale confirmation page. Enter the name, email address, and serial number on the Activation and Setup Wizard exactly as they appear on the email or confirmation page, click Activate.

A successful registration will activate the full version of Identity Pro.

Set the Master Password

After registration, enter a master password. The password is cap sensitive, and it is best to use both letters and numbers. If for any reason Identity Pro is uninstalled and then reinstalled, the same password used at the time of uninstall is required to view the encrypted data stored in the Vault. Caution: Atherion Software cannot retrieve your password, please use care when saving a password. When complete, click Next.

Enter and confirm the master password. The selection will be confirmed when set correctly.
Click OK to continue. Immediately write down the password and store it in a safe location.

Answer Security Questions: Select three security questions from the drop down menus on the left, or type in original questions rather than using the pre-sets.  Type the corresponding answers in the boxes to the right. These answers are NOT cap sensitive, but must be spelled correctly in the event a password is lost or forgotten.

When complete, click Save. Remember, Atherion Software cannot retrieve a password OR the answers to the security questions; no personal data is transmitted at any time.

Require Master Password Settings: Additional levels of security may be set within the software. Protect sensitive data if the computer is shared or you are multi-tasking. Prevent others from navigating around Identity Pro, even if the program is open, by checking the three top boxes: “Viewing my Vault,” “Viewing my Wallet,” and “Viewing or Changing System Settings.” Use Application Time Out Control to select the number of minutes of inactivity on the computer before Identity Pro returns to the log in screen. When complete, click Next to save the settings and move to the next screen.

Default Scan Options: This scan option enables a blanket scan for additional items. “My Internet Data,” “My Email” and “My Computer” are set by default. If necessary, “Scan Email Attachments” will provide a more thorough scan but it will take much longer. “Telephone Numbers” is not checked by default because it is possible to return thousands of real phone numbers from emails and software. Search for specific phone numbers by adding them under the general tab in “My Wallet.” To move on click Save and Close.

Click Forgot Password link for password assistance. Answer the security questions to retrieve the lost password. When the security questions have been answered correctly, a screen with the password will appear.

Run a Full Scan

Launch Identity Pro at any time by either double clicking on the desktop icon or by clicking on
the shield in the taskbar on the lower right corner of the screen, and selecting Open

If an update is available, it will appear on the Home screen after Identity Pro is launched. Select Check for Updates at any time.  Click Update to receive the latest version.

The master password is required each time Identity Pro is launched. This feature locks down
the application and protects sensitive data.

New Scan: the View button shows any unresolved items left from previous scans. View and resolve items before a new scan, ignore them, or begin a new scan. The unresolved items, if ignored, will show up in the next scan.

New Scan: Prior to running a scan, click on View My Wallet. View what is set to be scanned currently and/or add new items to the search.

New Scan: Add criteria to or delete criteria from a scan without navigating to “My Wallet” tab before a scan. Click the drop down (Credit Card, DOB, SSN etc), select the category, type in the value, such as a credit card number, and then a nickname. Click Add to save the item entered. Customize the criteria for each scan by using the check boxes on the right under “Use in Scan?” Select the criteria to scan for and click Begin Scan.

New Scan: Use the “Criteria” button to add or change custom scan options without leaving the “New Scan” tab. This scan option enables a blanket scan for additional items. Search for specific phone numbers by adding them under the general tab in “My Wallet.”

Check Use Custom Paths to scan a specific location quickly, such as the desktop, or a removable drive. Browse for the location (another drive or folder) to scan. Reset this to Normal Scan before the next scan to search the whole computer.

When all changes are made, click Begin Scan on the lower right of the screen.

Once the full scan has been completed, view the data in each one of the tabs: “My Internet Files,” “Email,” and “My Computer Files.” For example, select “Internet Data” to view the file. Atherion recommends selecting “Shred” to delete this data immediately after completing any scan. Internet Data contains personal information like usernames and passwords for different websites. These may be accessible on the computer by any hacker. It is safer to fill in passwords each time it is required on a website and NEVER click "save password" to avoid this vulnerability.

Select Email: Email data can be dealt with in several ways: “Shred Selected,” “Redact Selected,” “Add to my Vault” and “Ignore Selected.” The “Shred Selected” button is a secure delete feature and is permanent. “Redact Selected” replaces ONLY the sensitive data with XXXX's. Please note this is irreversible, but in most cases this isn't a problem since the data replaced is repeated in other locations (for example, on a credit card). “Add to My Vault” is generally the safest option. It will move the file containing sensitive data into your Identity Pro Vault. This Vault is encrypted and safe. To access this file later, simply open the Vault and either open the file or extract from the Vault and place on the Desktop or chosen location. When finished with the file, remember to add it BACK to the Vault for safety. “Ignore Selected” will remove this file from future searches. Choose this option when the information inside the file is not sensitive data, for example, a canceled credit card, etc. The file will no longer be scanned. To add it back to the scanning criteria, remove it from the Exclusions list in the Settings area. The “Select all” feature should be used with extreme caution. Do not move or shred large numbers of files at once unless it is planned carefully and completely.

Select My Computer Files: these files can be dealt with in several ways: “Shred,” Add to My Vault,” “Ignore,” and “Open”. The “Shred Selected” button is a secure delete feature and is permanent.  Add to My Vault” is generally the safest option.

Control Features

Use the Identity Pro Home screen to check for updates, visit the Atherion Corporate website, see when the last scan was performed and navigate to “New Scan,” “My Vault,” “My Wallet,” “Setting,” or “Help.”

The New Scan screen sets exactly what data will be scanned for, and what drives will be scanned. A Normal Scan simply scans everything on the computer compared to pre-determined values such as ANY Social Security Number format or any Credit Card number format. By clicking Criteria, you can change some settings like location for the scan, file paths etc. See "Run a Full Scan" for more information. Click View My Wallet to enter additional criteria or review the existing criteria. This can also be done on the Wallet tab. Click Begin Scan to begin the scan when criteria is set.

My Vault: Select My Vault to access the Identity Pro Vault screen. All data that has been added to the Vault will be visible. View or extract files from this window.

Click Add File to add a file to the Vault. Browse to the location of the file. Select the file and click Open. The file will now be physically moved from its current location into the Identity Pro Vault. This file is protected from identity theft.

My Wallet: this window is one of the most useful tools in the Identity Pro arsenal. My Wallet stores all personal data and is password protected at all times.

My Wallet is completely encrypted when Identity Pro is closed.
My Wallet is a personal data base of anything “searchable.” Passport numbers, employee ID numbers, bank account numbers, personal telephone numbers. Click on the down arrow to the right of the “Add” window, and select the correct category. Type the value in the next window to the right (such as SSN, Phone Number, Credit card number, etc.) Add a nickname to the item to make it easily recognizable. After adding each item click Add to place it in “My Wallet.” All items with a check in the box on the right will be searched for in future scans. Uncheck a line item to remove it from future scans. The “Print” button on the bottom of this prints all data if needed.

Settings: set scan options using the Settings screen. “My Internet Data,” “My Email” and “My Computer” are checked by default. This will direct Identity Pro to scan the entire PC. Check "Use Custom Paths" and select a path for the application to scan specific locations quickly. It will only scan the selected location such as the desktop or a removable hard drive. This feature will speed up the scan. Reset the scan options any time to include the entire computer in the scan and make sure “My Internet Data,” “My Email” and “My Computer” are checked.

If necessary, “Scan Email Attachments” will give you a more thorough scan but it will take much longer. “Telephone Numbers” is not checked by default because it is possible to return thousands of real phone numbers from emails and software. Search for specific phone numbers by adding them under the general tab in “My Wallet.”

Excluded File Types and Paths: if you have previously run a scan and clicked the "Ignore Selected" option, the file and its path will show up here. To include the file in a future scan simply click on the file and click Remove.

User Settings: shows the Serial Number, Registration Status, Subscription Type and the Master Password Control. Use “Master Password Control” to change the Master Password or Edit Password Hints. This area also contains a View Log File which will help the Atherion Support Team diagnose a problem should one ever arise.

To change the Master Password, click Change Master Password to activate the area. Enter the current password and then the desired new password twice. Click Save. A confirmation message will be displayed if the password has been changed successfully.

Edit the Security Questions at any time by selecting "Edit Security Questions" to activate the area. Enter new questions and answers as necessary. Note: security questions, answers and passwords cannot be retrieved by the Atherion Software Support Staff. Personal information is never relayed to or stored by Atherion Software.

Help: there are several options for Help . The “Online Support Center” as well as the “FAQ” buttons will take you to the Atherion Software corporate website. Launch local help will launch the HTML Users Guide. This guide can be printed as needed. Submit a support ticket to Atherion Software by completing the form, or use Contact Us for assistance via email.
